My jiu-jitsu gym’s app for membership and class enrollment was painfully slow and difficult to use, so I rebuilt the backend for >8x faster performance and unified key admin workflows like student verification and membership management.
Even after that, ~30% of students still didn't sign up for classes because the the legacy UI felt clunky, and "useful" features like the leaderboard and progress tracking felt disconnected from students' goals. I redesigned this experience to align with what actually motivated users to train, making sign-ups and progress tracking feel like a natural part of everyone's jiu-jitsu journey.
